There are public elevators all over the place. This is brilliant as the hills are steep and Zoe's legs are little. This one took us from the downtown up to the Castelo neighborhood, close to our apartment.
The pavement is super pretty (and slippery when wet and made of cobble stones).
In fact, almost everything is really pretty, including (especially?) the decay.
The people are very kind to us. From Susanna, who is renting us our apartment to lady that made the dolls below (and spent a long time telling me the story of all of dolls and how she quit her job years ago to pursue her creative happiness) to the guy at the chocolate shop who showed Caleb his record collection, people have been really nice.
