Day 11: Barcelona

A lovely day to hang out by the water.

But! First let's discuss breakfast:

The kids were disappointed that we didn't head straight to the neighborhood playground after breakfast like yesterday, so extracted a promise from me that we were en route to a different playground. They were dubious when we got on the Metro, but eventually conceded that I was telling the truth.

We got off at the Olympic Village stop and walked along the park that had the playground and then along the beach.

Eventually, searching for lunch led us to the Poblenou where we stumbled upon the neighborhood's popular tapas restaurant. Caleb had mussels.

Then we chased the sun around the neighborhood, meandering back to the Metro.

We zipped over to the Barceloneta to redeem a promise for beach time. Yesterday, while we were at a bookshop, I cam upon a copy of a book about Barcelona designers and the project for an ice cream shop was highlighted and told Luke, "I want to eat that," and so we did. (They shave the ice cream off of big solid blocks!)

Then... The Beach! (Which ended with Zoe sobbing after it finally sunk in that we weren't going to let her bring home (to America!) her 2 favorite ginormous rocks. We're mean parents, it's true, but luggage is expensive these days!
