Yiayia Zulauf

Yiayia Zulauf came and visited and helped us to get a little more settled. She let mom and dad catch up on their sleep a bit and kept mom company as dad went back to work. She got me an ErgoBaby that I can snuggle up in while mom takes Henry for walks or runs errands. She couldn't believe how big I had gotten in just the couple weeks that had passed by since she saw me last!

New House

Hello everyone!

It's been a while since I've updated my blog, but I have good reason. The past week I haven't had access to a computer, as I've been driving down I-5 to the Bay Area, and helping my parents move into their new home. Dad's been away a lot, getting things from my parents' old apartment, but this has given me lots of time to hang out with my mom, sleep, and eat.

The new place is pretty nice, and there's a dog and cat to keep me company, though the dog doesn't seem to like it when the cat gets near me. He likes to chase her away.

I've been going through clothes very quickly, because I like making my parents do laundry. The rolling clunky sounds of the dryer are very soothing. I remember wearing a cotton outfit when I left the hospital which was about twice as big as me, I couldn't even keep my feet in the legs of them. I put it back on recently and it fits just about perfectly. I must be growing pretty quickly!

Caleb's First Bath

Henry likes to make sure everything is going as it should.

Caleb seemed to enjoy his first bath...as long as we kept him warm, he was happy. It was when we had to take him out and dry him off that we saw the tears. And he was
not happy about the cold lotion we tried to put on him.

Catching up

It's taken me a while to get this blog up and running. It's been 9 days now and a lot has happened.

On my first day my grandparents on both sides came to visit, as well as some great aunts, great uncles, and second cousins. My dad wasn't around, but my mom told me he was flying up from San Francisco. He arrived around 11 and seemed like a pretty cool dude. We all posed for a ridiculous amount of photographs - apparently I'm a big star around here.

The next day my parents took me to my mom's parent's house. There was a big old cat there, but she didn't say much. Later I went to my dad's parent's house, but around dinner time there wasn't much to eat. I asked what they had around and all they had was boob. gross. They eventually offered some formula - tasty!

Over the next week I grew to appreciate the finer qualities of boob. My mom apparently has some pretty good boobs. Lucky me!

My parents have been dressing me in these ridiculously over sized outfits. Some are even kinda like dresses! I do my best to squirm out of them, but my captors are too strong. I get back at them my own way, however. When they're changing my diaper I like to pee at them. I love the fact that they don't believe in spanking, or I'd never get away with it!

My grandparents have been doing lots of visiting, as well as all sorts of old people. They've been giving me some fun gifts, though. Lots of hats - which is good because I get cold sometimes. I've also been getting some big old cardboard pads which I'm told hold stories. I guess I just need to chew through the outer layers to get to them.

My uncle Zach has been visiting and giving me lots of attention. He seems to like it when I gurgle, so I try to do that for him. I hear that I have an uncle Nick, but that he isn't feeling well, so I'll have to see him at another time.

I've been fairly tired this last week, but people keep bugging me for a chance to touch me. Perhaps I'm considered some sort of religious leader around here? I'm not really sure, but it's certainly a nuisance. I'd prefer to just sleep most of the time.

I've also noticed some kind of psychic connection with these things coming out of my hip. I think about them moving and they do. I try to make them kick, and they kick. It's pretty cool. I'm still trying to figure out if my telekinesis works with other items around the house.

Mom says:
These two weeks were sort of a magical time...we were able to stay at Darlene and Jay's and have everything taken care of, allowing us to just focus on Caleb and get used to the idea of being parents. We were overwhelmed by how many good wishes we received and how loved we felt. Our timing was perfect, it seemed, because we were there for beautiful weather and left right as a rain storm was moving in. On the way down to San Francisco (and reality) we were able to stop off in Vancouver, WA to see my mom's family and introduce Caleb to my grandparents, as their first great-grandchild.

First Post!

Hello everyone,

I am Caleb Zulauf. I was born July 5th, 2007, and am a healthy boy. I started this blog to catalog my many adventures of babyhood, to provide insight into the life of a growing boy, and to make my home on the world wide web. I hope you will join me in my journey.

This is my Grandma Lila holding me just a couple minutes after I was born. I came out with a squished nose and cone head, but they didn't last long like that.

Here's my mom holding me and realizing that everything was going to be different from this point onward.

My dad is still looking a little shocked here...

All of my grandparents seemed happy to meet their first grand child

I'm ready to go home from the hospital. I was in the smallest outfit that they could find and I still had plenty of room. That changed quickly.
